Australian Property Buyer Types

January 19, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Property buyer types in Australian fall into three categories:

  1. First Home Buyer
  2. Owner Occupier
  3. Investor

Property buyer activity can be measured on different levels and in different ways.

Past historical measurements can be made and the most common data is supplied from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA). This includes statistics for (click on the link):

  1. First Home Buyer
  2. Owner Occupier
  3. Investor

These statistics include actual settled sales and hence represent quantitative historical data.

From time to time real estate participants and professionals will report property buyer activity e.g there are more investors out and about looking at property and making offers.  However these statements may not be backed up with firm quantitative sales data.

So be mindful of media statements or property market statements about buyer activity unless it is stated that the statistics are from actual settled sales.
