Each Australian state government operate planning departments that services the state.

Valuable information can be obtained from these planning departments regarding residential zoning and development potential for all residential property.

Information that could be obtained include:

• the property zoning or residential design code
• how many dwellings can be developed on the property eg single dwelling, duplex (2) or triplex (3) etc
• what type of dwelling can be built eg house, townhouse, villa, apartment etc
• what are the building design requirements eg quality, number of carports, shed size, courtyard area etc
• other information
